The Lab Inventory module is useful for storing and linking sample data, keeping track of inventory items such as kits and reagents, or simply creating labels. Its simple and straight forward design allows for flexibility to the user.

Regardless of how you want to use the module, adding a single item is as follows:

1. Open the Lab Inventory from the top-right menu.

2. Choose a group from the left-hand column or add a new group if needed before adding an item.

3. Decide which column/category the item belongs to or add the appropriate column which could represent a lifecycle of events, for example.

4. Now you are ready to add the item. After clicking on the plus sign, the following window will open. you must add an item name, but the other metadata is optional.

Often times, there are several samples that need to be added at once and might already be in an excel file. The Lab Inventory module offers an easy importation of bulk samples. You will follow the first three steps listed above. However, instead of clicking on the plus sign to add an item, click on the menu in the top right of the column to locate the "Bulk Import Items" option.

Although the software already has default input options for each item added, all fields from the imported excel file can be added as well. Additionally, there is flexibility in the naming scheme for each item (see the window below).

Adding items in bulk is extremely efficient. Once samples are added to the inventory, linking to a task or method can further assist in organization, efficiency, and data integrity.
